The visit to the war memorial around Independence Day is ideal for the young citizens. It’s the heroes and sons of soil who have given their life to protect our country and our generation must know about their martyrdom. They would take pride in their valiant act and realize the value of freedom. The visit made them grasp the solemn meaning of the famous world war quote “When you go home tell them of us … For your tomorrow we gave our today”. The glimpse of the ‘Lighting of the lamp for our heroes’ and the’ laying of the wreath ‘had an everlasting impact on the young impressionable minds.
One could see their hearts filled with pride for the war heroes. Their eyes welled up with tears for the heroic soldiers who laid their lives for the motherland.
The children were also taken to the Herbal Garden. In the world of deforestation, loss of flora and fauna and the glittering world of tetra packs, it was an enlightening and enriching experience for the children. The medicinal values and advantages of the various plants were an eye opener for young students. They learnt to value and respect plants. For the first time, they realized that plants were not just meant to be admired for their beauty and fragrance but also for their medicinal qualities.
Subsequently, they were shown the weapons used by our soldiers in performing their duties. Navigational knowledge was also imparted to them through models. The high point was target shooting.
To add to the celebrations and to lighten up the mood, high tea was organized for all present. The whole experience filled with fun and awareness, left memorable imprints on the young minds.
