SPECIAL ASSEMBLY ON DEEPAWALI AT TMS, LUCKNOW

SPECIAL ASSEMBLY ON DEEPAWALI AT TMS, LUCKNOW

Deepawali or Diwali is certainly the biggest and the brightest of all Hindu festivals. It's the festival of lights (deep = light and avali = a row i.e., a row of lights) that's marked by four days of celebration, which literally illumines the country with its brilliance, and dazzles all with its joy. The students of The Millennium School, Lucknow conducted a special assembly on 9th November, 2015.

The assembly started with all the students lined up impressively to take special oath, which has been circulated by the DM Lucknow to all the Principals of Lucknow requesting them to conduct the oath in their respective schools, for Diwali this year. The oath read:

We pledge to celebrate this year’s festival of lights as happy and healthy Diwali’. We will try our best to ensure that we protect our precious nature by ensuring pollution free Diwali. We will not use the prohibited high intensity fire crackers and will use the permitted low intensity, harmless fire crackers in the presence of our parents/guardians. We will abide by the timings of 0600 a.m. to 1000 p.m. prescribed by Honourable Supreme Court. We will not make use of crowded public places like-roads, gardens/parks, commercial establishments etc for the purpose of fire crackers.

We will take all possible steps and precautionary measures to ensure that our nature is well preserved and enriched, so that we set an example for others to follow this path of happy and healthy Diwali.

The oath was followed by a very well choreographed presentation by the students on the ‘chaupais’ of Ramcharitramanas which conveyed the joy and elation of Ayodhywasis on the return of Lord Ram after 14 years of banishment.

The Principal, Dr.Manjula Goswami distributed certificates to different students who have done the school proud by bagging prizes in many prestigious events in different schools. She explained that in each legend, myth and story of Deepawali lies the significance of the victory of good over evil; and it is with each Deepawali and the lights that illuminate our homes and hearts, that this simple truth finds new reason and hope. From darkness unto light — the light that empowers us to commit ourselves to good deeds, that which brings us closer to divinity.
