The Literary Club of The Millennium School, South City, Lucknow organised an Inter-class Debate Competition to hone the oratorical skills of the students of classes VI to VIII. The topic for the debate was ‘An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.’
Debate is one of the academic activities that give the students creative room to express what they feel. They are also encouraged to take the roads not taken and in their quest, the knowledge that they gain is unparalleled.
It was very evident that the teams were very well prepared and they used various skills like overstatement, definition, irony, etc. to convince the audience. The participants, armed with statistics and data, made their arguments more emphatic with their righteous facial expressions, body movement and gestures.
The highlight of the debate was the rebuttal round. Each participant very confidently defended his argument and heatedly spoke against the speakers for the motion defending his/her side with fervour.
The competition was laced with many nail-biting moments. The audience thoroughly enjoyed listening to the speakers.
Dr. Manjula Goswami, the Principal of the school praised the participants' enthusiasm and also expressed her take on the motion by emphasizing the importance of being non violent as this is the only way to make sure you have the moral upper hand. It also prevents any situation that may be escalated or that may turn into a vicious cycle of retaliation.
