The Millennium School, Kurukshetra observed Swacch Bharat- Swachhta Pakhwada as per the guidelines of the Central Board of School Education (CBSE) on the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi. Plethora of activities were organised under the given theme.The Swachhta drive initiated with a Special Assembly in which the students were made aware of Swachhta and its relevance in daily routine. Students recited an inspirational poem and rendered a speech on cleanliness.Besides this, all students and staff members of the school took an oath to maintain cleanliness in their locality and work place very meticulously.Further, there was Tree Plantation by the students in which various saplings were planted to keep the environment pollution free. Then, the students of classes IV and V contributed in the cleanliness of the school through ‘Shramdan’. They all cleaned their classes thoroughly with the help of teachers and hence, they understood the meaning of Swachhta practically. The tiny tots of Little Millennium also celebrated ‘Handwash Day’. Thus, they learnt the correct techniques of washing their hands with soap in order to stay disease free. A Poster Making activity was also conducted for the classes VI and VII in which the students made various alluring and instructive posters to spread the message on the vitality of cleanliness in life. Similarly, a Letter Writing Day in the form of an Editorial Letter Writing Competition for the students of classes IX to XI was also organised. All the learners wrote a letter to the editor of a national daily in order to draw the attention of the masses and the concerned authorities towards the waste management . The students wrote how cleanliness and hygiene is very imperative to lead a healthy and disease free life. They also penned down their observations related to the attitude of the people towards cleanliness. They appreciated how the government has taken initiative to develop the habit of maintaining cleanliness among the Indians , however there is a long way to go.The students appreciated the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi i.e. cleanliness is next to godliness. It is noteworthy hereby that The Millennium School, Kurukshetra also organised an essay writing competition on the same theme in which all the students from classes III to XII had participated very enthusiastically. All the students liked these events thoroughly. The school has uploaded all the conducted events on the official website of the CBSE. Principal Dr. A. K. Singh appreciated the students for their creative thoughts and encouraged them to maintain Swachhta in their life. He said that the vision and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi is still meaningful in this age and the young age band, especially the students can epitomize the dream of Gandhiji by pursuing the path shown by him.
